Volunteering at The Great Overland Station is a rewarding experience. Being part of a volunteer team gives one the opportunity to meet visitors from all over the United States and to share your stories and knowledge about the museum and our exhibits. As a volunteer you will also meet and work with other wonderful volunteers who share a similar interest. We are a Museum on the grow. Quarterly meeting are held for our volunteers to provide education and current upcoming events and activities, not only at the museum but in the community.
- Front Admission Desk: answer the phone, welcome visitors, collect admissions, explain the museum layout and share the benefits of membership.
- Gift Shop Assistants: interacts with the visitors as they browse through the museum gift shop, to provide customer service, handle transactions and help maintain display shelves.
- Docents: lead groups of visitors on guided tours around the museum, provide information and answer questions about the museum exhibits. All information will be provided to the Docents along with complete training.
- Exhibits: cataloging artifacts, inventory, updating exhibits, setup new exhibits.
- Office Support: computer work, filing, prepare mailings, tracking logs, assistance with computer problems.
- Grounds: mowing, maintaining flower garden, mulching
- Maintenance: assist with painting, minor building repairs inside and outside.
- Special Events: assist with coordinating activites for quarterly Children's Activity Days, Topeka Railroad Festival, Annual Gala, concerts.
